Q: Is a permit required to hold a wedding on the beach?
A: In the unincorporated areas of Georgetown County there is no permit required. However, these are public beaches, all beach regulations apply. It is unlawful to use any beach access for any type of gathering.
Q: Can we have a bonfire on the beach?
A: Fires on the beach are allowed in unincorporated areas. However some communities restrict open burning and you should contact those communities before you decide to burn. https://www.gtcounty.org/Faq.aspx?QID=270
Q: Are fireworks permitted?
A: Many areas of Georgetown County Beaches are included in “fireworks free zones.” If in doubt, contact authorities to check your area. Also, note that debris produced from fireworks is considered litter. Those shooting fireworks are responsible for clean-up and removal from public beaches.
Q: How do I report a maintenance issue with a public beach access?
A: Please notify Georgetown County Parks & Recreation by calling (843) 545-3532.
Q: Is overnight camping permitted on the beach? A: Sleeping on public beaches in Georgetown County is prohibited between midnight and sunrise.
Q: Is fishing permitted on the beach?
A: Baiting or fishing at any time from public beaches in such a manner as to create an unsafe condition or hazard to bathers, swimmers, surfers and others in the water along public beaches shall be unlawful. SCDNR regulates fishing. License requirements vary. Contact SCDNR for up-to-date information concerning these requirements.
Q: Are vehicles permitted at beach accesses overnight?
A: Beach access parking is permitted only during the hours these accesses are open. No overnight parking is permitted.
Q: Can we dig holes on the beach?
A: Digging or altering beach surfaces is permitted under the following conditions: —Holes may not be deeper than two feet (2”) —Holes must be filled in, regardless of diameter or depth, and the area returned to its natural state before leaving the beach —Only children’s toys or small gardening hand tools (no more than approx. 12 inches in length) may be used to assist in digging or altering beach surfaces)
