Beach Regulations - Georgetown County, South Carolina

 
Welcome to our beaches and communities. This information should allow for a more enjoyable and safer vacation for you and your neighbor residents. Any references using GTC are Georgetown County’s rules and regulations and enforceable by the GTC Sheriff’s Dept.

BEACH ETIQUETTE
• SC: On all public state beaches NO GLASS CONTAINERS and NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES (except for beer and wine)
• GTC: If a hole is dug in the beach sand, holes cannot be more than two feet deep. They also must be filled in before leaving. Tools used may only be children’s toy shovels or gardening hand tools but no tool more than 12” in length.
• GTC: Prohibited to deposit refuse on the beach or in the water. Use the trash receptacles at each walkway to keep our beaches clean.
• Please do not leave trash that will not fit in the receptacles. Take discarded chairs, umbrellas, and tents to the Recycle Center 2 miles North on Westly Road on the left side on Hwy 17 (after Brookgreen).
• GTC: All tents & shelters must be removed by sunset. The County may remove and dispose of unattended items.
• For houses on the beach, please turn off exterior lights to aid turtle hatchlings to find the ocean as they are following the moon.
• GCT: No private vehicles on the beaches or the dunes.
• GCT: Dogs must be leashed from 9AM to 7PM. Dogs not leashed in other hours must be under voice control by their owners.
• GCT: Litchfield Beaches Access Hours: Open one hour before sunrise.
Closed: April 15th through Oct 31 after 10PM; Nov 1 through April 14th after 8PM.

ROADS AND STREETS
• SPEED LIMIT for all vehicles is 25 MPH. Drive like your children are walking on the streets.
• Be aware of walkers, bikers, golf cars, wagons, strollers, and wheelchairs on the streets.
• Per SC state law golf carts can only legally be driven by licensed drivers, and only between sunrise and sunset regardless if the cart has lights.
• No motorized vehicles, including golf cars, are allowed on the bike path.
• Do not block beach walkway entrances when you park.
• When parking, respect the property of others.
 
TRASH PICKUP
• Move trash containers to the street on Monday and Friday nights before the Tuesday and Saturday pickup days. Trash trucks start their pickups before 6:00 am. The Saturday pickup schedule changes to Friday between mid-October and mid-May.
